At
east Float dock in Birkenhead a fine collection of fighting ships are
permanently on display. Two veterans of the Falklands war - H.M.S.
Plymouth and the submarine H.M.S. Onyx stand next to U534 - the only
German submarine to be raised from the seabed after being sunk by the
Allies. She was almost certainly the last U-Boat to leave Germany
and her sinking marked the end of the Battle of the Atlantic. |

Forthlin Road is one of the most important houses in the history of
popular music. This ordinary terraced house was the family home of
Sir Paul and Michael McCartney right through the early Beatles
years. This is where the Beatles composed and rehearsed their
earliest songs, and it was from here that The Scaffold was formed. Inside
the house, the period is vividly recalled with original photographs from
Michael McCartney. |
