Philharmonic Hall |
The
Philharmonic Hall was built in the 1930's when cinema was a crucial part
of everyday life. At the time, it was fitted out with the worlds
only rising cinema screen and played host to all the classic Black &
White films from the silver screens heyday.
Although the original equipment was taken to the National Museum
of Film, Photography and Television in Bradford, the hall was
refurbished 5 years ago and now has the most modern cinema equipment
available. It may be famous for its classic black and white films
but the state of the art equipment can cope with just about anything -
the northern premiere of the Disney film Pocahontas for example.
On concert nights, the Philharmonic Hall's Grand Foyer and Balcony Bars,
complete with Art Deco splendour, are open from 5pm-11pm. The
'Lower Place', the Philharmonic Halls award winning restaurant is open
nightly serving seasonal A la carte menus and daily specials.
Guided tours of the Philharmonic are available at £3.50 per person
giving everyone a chance to see what goes on behind the scenes. |
