The Unity Theatre is one of Liverpool’s most ground breaking venues with a diverse range of productions usually on a small scale. Often promoting the work of new playwrights and theatre companies the Unity offers an affordable and enjoyable experience.
One of the few remainders of the Unity Theatre Movement, it has a reputation based on providing quality performances from up and coming theatre groups and in recent years has gained a loyal following.

VAGINA MONOLOGUES
A poignant and hilarious tour of the last frontier, the ultimate forbidden zone.
The Vagina Monologues is a celebration of female sexuality in all its complexity and mystery. Hailed as the bible for the new generation of women, it has been performed worldwide.

PLASTICINE
Plasticine is the dark tale of Maksim, a Russian teenage outcast living in a society of drug addicts, delinquents and prostitutes.
As he makes his way through the nameless city, he struggles between being drawn into it one moment, then repelling it the next, only finding relief and comfort in the plasticine models he makes alone in his room.
26 year-old Russian playwright Vassily Sigarev recieved the Charles Wintour Award for most promising playwright at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards last year for
Plasticine.

XPOSURE!
As a precursor to LEAP 2004 Dance Northwest present an exciting triple-bill of newly choreographed dance work by some of the North West's leading dance artists;
The Liverpool Improvisation Collective,
Qasim Riza Shaheen and
Lisi Perry.
LIC invite the improbable by performing improvised work in response to their environment and the audience with live accompaniment.

WARRIOR SQUARE
Warrior Square tells the exciting story of a brother and sisters escape to England. Persecuted for being different, Andrea and Riva are forced to flee their homeland and now they must learn to live in a country very different from their own.
'Warrior Square' is a moving play about loneliness, friendship and hope. Giving young people the chance to put themselves in someone else's shoes, this is dynamic story telling theatre at its best.

ABSOLUTE DANCE
This exploration of contemporary and contact dance improvisation features new work that incorporates a range of styles from tap to funk, from hip-hop to show stopping jazz.
Culminating in a sublime experience, this unusual theatrical dance event explores the work of young choreographers and performers, studying dance as part of their Performing Arts degree at LIPA.

TMESIS
Following two sold out nights at unity in October, Momentum are back.
Striking visuals, acrobatics, movement and music combine in this beautiful and dramatic story of love and the reason why we are searching for our other half.
Momentum take you back to a time when there were three sexes; man, woman and the hermaphrodite. These were creatures with four arms, four legs and two heads, whose strength leads them to dare to challenge the Gods, creating disruption in a previously harmonious world.

BURKE & HARE
Edinburgh, 1827, people are disappearing from the streets.
The police are baffled but medical science is advancing at a miraculous rate.
Enter Burke and Hare, the Laurel and Hardy of the morgues.

THE MAN WHO CRACKED
Hot on the success of Backwater, Liverpool's award winning Spike Theatre return with their darkly comic tale of paranoia, celebrity and the risks of over-ambition.
Exploring the 'reds in the bed' atmosphere that originally generated the Sci-Fi boom of the Fifties, Spike create a take on Americana and the battle of the television ratings.

CAPITAL NIGHT
MDI has commissioned an evening of dance from current Capital of Culture city Genova, in celebration of Liverpool winning Capital of Culture 2008.
Curated by international artist Roberto Casarotto, Capital Night is an evening of innovative dance from some of the best-known choreographers and performers within the Italian Contemporary dance scene.

IESTYN EDWARDS
Madame Galina has been sent over by the Russian government to make money from her master class. As this is Britain, she has been told to bring a special pantomime version because that is all they understand.
Iestyn Edwards' alter ego, Madame Galina, is an extravagant mix of classical ballet, comedy and prima donna. Her acid tongue and quick wit will have you wondering what you have stumbled into.

GOING SOLO
Three very different female performers, sharing intimate solos with the audience.
The artists are Liz Lea, short listed for the prestigious Jerwood Choreography Award, Kate Ashby and Sophie Paratte.
Going Solo fuses contrasting dance styles as each performer presents their own work with Contact, South Asian Dance and Martial Arts techniques.
Sensuous, exhilarating and powerful performances.

Pugilist Specialist
San Francisco-based The Riot group won every major award at the Edinburgh Festival 2003 with this soaring and timely play dissecting the American military's hunt for evil in foreign lands. Pugilist Specialist introduces four highly-trained American marines who are assigned the task of eliminating a troublesome Middle Eastern leader.

THIS IMAGINERY WOMAN
An exquisite black dress, beautiful live music and an astonishing performance in an ice-white space awash with colour and light. This haunting cabaret opens the throttle on honesty, pain and emotion.

4Ever is set in a home for children and depicts what occurs when the adults have gone away and nobody, under any circumstances, should go outside.
4Ever is the result of a year long project featuring young people aged 11 -18 from eleven Liverpool schools and The Myriad Theatre Company.

MEDEA
Confirming its commitment to intense story telling, Company:Collisions draws on the dramatic traditions of ancient Greece with this arresting new prodution.
Featuring acclaimed actor Denise Evans as Medea, the show embraces music from all over the world with the Chorus sung in the original language.

ROMEO & JULIET
Shifting Sands leap into the warring world of the Capulets and Montagues, finding great opportunities for play. Props are scarce but maybe the ladder will come in useful?
But what begins as a game becomes deadly serious as they fall under the spell of passion and poetry. Playing with tragedy is a dangerous business.

House
A house is a refuge. A house is not a home. A house contains many rooms and many lives.
Last seen at unity with Broken Planet in September 2001, Naked Subculture return with their new show.
House continues the company's explorations of life on the [knife]edge of modern society, using their trademark blend of text, live music, stand up, song, comedy, video, tragedy, mask, puppetry, and making it up as you go along.

THE HUMANITY CARPET
A live combined arts performance that has been devised to highlight third world debt and first world corruption. It is a protest against diminishing peace in a world that is being diluted and absorbed through globalisation and power.
The Humanity Carpet includes literature-poetry, music, drama, commedia dell'arte, interpretation and dance from a range of cultures. A culturally diverse group of artists come together in a colourful, unified blend of entertainment on the theme of Humanity and peace.

MISS ME ALREADY
Tony loves Maria and he's not going to let being on the wrong side of dead get in the way of telling her. The problem is he gets the whole time thing wrong and comes back to see her two years before they have even met. Maria is still with her previous boyfriend, the endearing, muffin obsessed Dave.
Saturday 24th
TOM THUMB
Tom Thumb brings his chicken hat and his portable window to tell us his story.
It is a story about being afraid.
"How can you sleep?" asks Tom's brothers.
"I can't. It must be because I'm scared," says Tom when he hears the ogre coming up the stairs.

Gumbo is the name for the classic Cajun stew - where all available ingredients are thrown into the mix. After simmering for several hours you have an extremely spicy and delicious feast! Gumbo Jumbo consists of some of the tastiest morsels from the gogmagogs entire repertoire.
